  • Basic fish finders

I need to put a basic fish finder on the wifes kayak, mainly for depth, but basic CHIRP would be nice.
Looking for a smaller VERTICAL screen,
And need one that comes with or has caps for the electrical connections. I remove the units for transport and need built in caps for the socket on the unit AND the cord.

    Any ideas?
    Prefer "last years" model

The base model Garmin Striker 4 can be had for about $120, maybe cheaper if you find a used or refurbished one. They are a popular choice for outfitting a kayak on a budget. I don't know what kind of connectors it has, I've never used one personally.

I second Dave. I’ve read good things about the striker. Believe I saw them for sale at Walmart in dunkirk.

For my old eyes, a 4" screen (measured as a diagonal) is too small. I prefer 5" or larger. Take a look on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay. A few years ago, I got a brand new Lowrance Hook2 5" unit without the power cord for $75. I bought a power cord separately and had a new unit for about $100. I have used it on three different kayaks, and it still works fine. Not all of those resale site deals are good ones. But if you get the right one, you can do very well.

I def wanted a vertical screen for this set up.
Doesthe hook series have a vertical (or portrait) screen vs a landscape screen?

The Hook2 I have is in horizontal mode. Each of the major electronics manufacturers have many models, and introduce new models each year. Some come with GPS, others without.

I have a very lightly used Striker 4 Im looking to sell. I think I bought it in ~2021? Let me double check that I still have all the parts for it. If so, I can let it go for a lot less than a new one.
