The past week or so has just been too hot for me to get my butt up and get the boat loaded and down to the water, but instead I have been installing the goodies I previously ordered. I talked with Luther at YakAttack in great lengths to decide on how to mount items and what items and mounts would work the best. I can't thank him enough for his time and assistance when I was trying to figure all of this stuff out.
The GearTrac installation is easy and straightforward - I used the GearTrac pieces for a template to drill the pilot holes for the supplied hardware as instructed.
The Lowrance fishfinder took me a bit of research and deciding how I wanted to install the transducer and power source. I settled on buying and using a scupper mounted transducer that I had to slightly modify for the Jackson BigTuna's scuppers which are not just round holes through the hull, they are more egg-shaped. I solved this problem by using a pool noodle for filler and ground down the sides of the lower portion of the transducer mount.
The head unit for the fishfinder is mounted directly to the GearTrac with a RAM mount for the Lowrance Elite series fishfinders. This makes a nice clean mount. I also opted to store the battery in a waterproof box inside a small soft-sided cooler that fits in the space in front of my foot pegs. This allows me to reconfigure the fishfinder as I reconfigure the seating in the boat. If I use both seats all I have to do is mover the FF to the rearward tracs and move the battery with it. I have not used the tandem feature of the kayak yet but hopefully will get the chance as my wife builds up her confidence in my kayak handling abilities!!!
I also purchased a Panfish Portrait camera mount from Luther to mount my Gopro. Once again, Yakattack produces a quality product. I also use the RAM mount and screw-ball to mount the camera to the GearTrac.
I will photograph and post the other stuff later... things to come: VisiCarbonPro stern light and flag mounted with a MightyMount, Austin Canoe & Kayak Milk Crate Buddy,
