how come i never see or hear of anyone using the self inflated life vest that most bass fishermen use?

i feel like they are less bulky, and lighter

feed back on this topic is huge for me because i am considering one of these

The one negative comment I have seen in regard to self inflating vests is, If for some reason you get bonked on the head during the emergency capsize event, you may not be able to self-inflate the bladder. With that said, some folks buy into the automatic inflating vest, but many people still think that automatic inflating vests could inflate from the spray and wet environment of kayaking when you don't want them to. I'm not sure about this as I have seen them used extensively while sailing and you can get pretty wet on some small sailboats.

I considered one of these inflatables too but I like the hard pockets and storage in my regular foam filled Stohlquist Fisherman vest.

I use an inflatable when I am in my boat but like the pockets on my LL Bean Kayak vest.

I use an automatic inflatible religiously. I like it and have never had a problem with it going off when it shouldn't. I bought the Bass Pro brand. I have a fancy fishing PFD with all the pockets and gadgets, but I find it to be too bulky.

I like having pockets to put stuff in: camera, wallet, phone, keys, knife, skoal...

A fishing buddy of has one, and it is super comfortable to wear, less hot, etc. However, my fear is that in the event of a rollover with all the hooks flying around, how puncture proof are they.

i have both the belt type and a vest auto/manuel they are great, for pockets i use a fly vest to stow stuff in. the older style auto vests could go off in spray or rain but the newer models wont. i mainly wear the belt very comforable but in colder weather a reg.PFD should be worn with waders

I just switched over to the bass pro brand auto/manual inflatable. You definitely miss out on the pockets, but the lack of bulk and increased comfort of that "wearing nothing" feeling is a fair trade off for me thus far.

So...is there something you need to tell us? I'm not meeting up with you for any "wearing nothing" kayak fishing outings, don't even bother to ask.

Especially if they are evening excursions.

I use an auto-inflatable from late spring to early fall. It is great not being wrapped in foam on a hot day. The best part is I always wear it!
