  • cheap alternative for a depth finder

i know budgets are tight sometimes, and some people are not able to fully rig a kayak with a depth finder. i may have found a cheaper solution. I have a Hummingbird Fishing Buddy, the portable fish finder. It works really well, i used it on my 10 ft pond prowler and its pretty spot on for me finding fish and showing me humps, and precise depth changes, usually landing me fish

but to start out these fishing buddys are like 120$ and come with a transducer connected to the actual depth finder.

Second the mount these come with do not fit on kayaks, but after extensive research i found a solution. and ill let the pictures do the talking from here

Great idea! At first I thought you were going to show us a piece of string with knots every 6inches with a weight tied to the end!!

I literally used a sharpie to mark my anchor line every foot when I got my first kayak...

My dad has one of those portable fishfinders on his jonboat for crabbing. Its definately easier to install than a normal fishfinder... I didnt know they had a kayak mount for it.

You can get some of the less expensive units for about $79.00. Look at some of the lesser Humminbirds. There is also a Garmin for $99.
