  • Kayak Insurance

I hadn't thought about it until just lately, but I have put a good bit of money into kayak fishing in a very short period of time. I have seen where a number of our members have had their yaks stolen lately. I like to keep my yak in the garage but I do occasionally leave it on the trailer if I'm going out multiple times in the same week. I just called Allstate and insured my kayak. I have a pro angler. I insured the yak for $2600, the trailer for $700, the depth finder four $600 and $500 for miscellaneous items on the boat. Allstate has a minimum premium of $100 per year which is what the policy cost me. Just something to think about. I would hate to see someone take a huge loss, if some street urchin decides that they need the yak more than you do.

I looked into it, but my homeowners policy didn't cover kayaks. I got a quote from progressive (my auto carrier) but I figured the odds of total hull loss were pretty slim.

HOWEVER, I got an add on to my home owners policy that covers all fishing gear and all electronics we own. It has worked out really well. No questions asked. When I dropped my iPhone in the water, called them up....$500 check was in the mail that day. If I were to turtle & lose gear, i would be reimbursed within a week! I love my homeowners policy. Daughter spills juice on my laptop & fries it? Covered!

This is a timely subject for me as my Revo was stolen from my car roof rack last week from a grocery store parking lot.

To the folks who have insured their kayaks, does it cover a kayak theft while it's at home only or does it cover its loss away from home as well like my situation?

Mine is a regular Boat policy and covers it everywhere, on land and sea as long as I'm in the USA.

My renters insurance is coming up here in September for renewal right in time for my new apartment in Annapolis. I called to see about upping my contents coverage which both of my kayaks would be covered under if they are stored inside. The new community has a kayak rack by the water that I also inquired about. They told me that property off premises is included at 10% of my contents limit, so if I have $20k contents coverage, I would have $2k to cover my kayaks. I might be upping my limits more just for this purpose while they're away from my apartment.

First thread I read after joining this forum. I never thought of getting a insurance policy on my kayak. I called my insurance company (nationwide) and it is actually very affordable. 160$ a year and it coves all my gear and twice the value of my kayak. Policy will start at beginning of the week.

I am pretty sure that if the kayak is stolen from your veihicle it would be covered on your auto policy and if it is stolen from your home it would be coverd on your home owners policy.
