  • rigging a flag & light

I just purchased a Jackson Cuda and am in the process of rigging it. I also got the yakattack visicarbon light & flag. I've been looking at pictures of other peoples yaks and noticed some mount their flags on the stern of their yak. does mounting the flag in that location get in the way of casting? I was thinking of mounting it behind my left shoulder so it would be out of the way.

Does anyone have any experience they would like to share before I start drilling holes in my boat?

    Thanks

You can mount them in Scotty flush mounts for a clean look or slide them into a rod holder on your crate. I rarely use the visipole so the ease of putting it in a rod holder on my crate appeals to me. You can also purchase a mighty mount from yak attack the fit those too.

this is my first yak and i've used it in the lake I live on. I love it so far. I need to log a lot more hours in it but so far I am very pleased with it. I see they are coming out with a 12' version as well.

I used a mighty mount from YakAttack and mounted it on a flat just behind my left shoulder as Luther recommended. He said that he has had few calls from guys that have mounted them full astern and can't reach them to turn them on, or worse yet, have broken the carbon shaft by attempting to grab it with an object and bend it far enough forward to be able to turn it on. He said, they will break if pushed to far.

I go either route... if launching at night, I will use one of my Scotty mounts to mount it. If I launch before then and need the extra rod holder then I mount it in a PVC rod holder on my chair. Either way works great. When mounted in my scotty adapter I have hit it a couple of times when I first started using it then I just started using the mount on my left side since I cast over my left shoulder.

I keep mine in the center rod holder on my crate behind me. I've never hit it while casting in all the years I've used it. Now my net on the other hand...

I have done both and never hit the flag while casting. Don't mount the pole too far away or you will have difficulty reaching to turn on the light. I must agree with the crate mount. However, too close, and the flapping of the flag directly behind my head drives me crazy.

I just put it in the center rodholder of my tankwell box. Never interfers with casting. I usually carry 4 rods and have five rodholders back there so it doesn't short me a holder.
