Working this thread like a sore rib! I am just posting now, not for a response (though more than welcom) but as a troubleshooting guide for future members. I have completely removed the duct seal I added to the original installation. Removed the transducer from the kayak and inspected the goop. Lots of air bubbles as you can see. So much for professional installation....want something done right, do it yourself.

After cleaning the transducer and the prior installation area, I reinstalled the transducer with a very liberal amouth of duct seal. Luckily I have a large stash, it's something I use on a daily basis at work. After placing the kayak in the Approved Troubleshooting Facitlity (the pool) I came back with a bach of good readings. The screen was very clear, it even registered the exiting foot steps very accurately....and most importantly, I did not mark any fish. I also swept the bottom of the pool with a broom under the transducer, that also registered.

Tomorrow will be another test run at Mariner Point Park in Joppatowne, Harford County. I am hoping with the rain today, it will not disrupt the water clarity and get hindered readings.

      Congrats!

I'd love to join you guys but I dont think household 6 will sign off on it. I might be stuck with either Centennial, or a venture out to Jonas Green Park. I just installed a scupper mount in my Cuda. Oblong scuppers make for interesting fitment, but it works, I just have to try her out on the water tomorrow.

Had my share of issues installing transducers myself. I had issues with goop (air bubbles) and straight duct seal, not getting a signal after a certain depth, lines, clutter etc. I've also run into issues with corrosion on the pin connectors that led to the same issues. A duct seal wet well solved most of my issues not related to corrosion and some di-electric grease solved the corrosion. Can't say I have ever really noticed water clarity affecting my readings when everything else was working correctly ???

I like to turn the fish ID off as well. At times the shape shape and location of the arc will give you an idea of what type of fish they actually are before you catch them.

I initial install today was going to be the wet well. Unfortunately near the front of the kayak on a tarpon, the hull has a "V" in the center where I wanted to place the transducer. In order to keep the transducer surrounded by water in the well, the walls would have to be higher than usual. I do have a flat spot in the center of the kayak, but makes the installation very awkward. Since it's a very basic FF, I am find with the installation I have now. I ended up using the entire brick of duct seal incase it fails tomorrow, I can switch to a wet well on site if the bite is slow.
