I have been told to use silicone grease on my FF connections to keep it corrosion free. However Home Depot does not carry any and only has this.IMG_0083.jpgIMG_0084.jpgIMG_0085.jpgIMG_0086.jpg So could I use it on my connections or would it ruin the unit. and sorry for the sideways pics

Go to the autoparts store and buy a little tube of this. dielectric grease
Squeeze it in the open connector on the fish finder and plug the plug in. It will fill the gaps and squeeze out and keep the corrosion out. If you plug and unplug you might loose some of here and there and need to re apply some times.

I'm not sure if lithium grease has the same conductive properties as dielectric grease. Go to your local auto parts store. They sell dielectric greas in small packets near the register. It is used to lubricate the connection between spark plugs and their boots. You don't need a lot, so there isnt much point in paying more for a big container of it. The small packets are like $1.00 at the auto parts stores.<insert witty comment here>

Dinh,
if you are very concerned about your FF stop by my house. I have 100% silicone grease to share. I pm'd my address and you have my phone number.
I believe The grease Archeryrob mentioned will work. Trust me on this. I never cover covered my boat. And my power boat was on the dock 12 months a year. Any grease for electrical connectors work very well on FF. Manufacturers know plastic components on any electrical equipment, I think. I used cheap marine electrical grease over 15 years on FF on my boat. This type of grease does not damage anything at all. I had no issues on FF and other electrical equipment. Once a year I cleaned (with wd 40 and a compressed air can from office depot) and jammed the female connector with the grease. For the female and male connectors, you want thick grease that does not melt (drip) when it is very hot. I never had issues wit WD 40 on plastic, but not sure about rubber products.
Prior to the electrical connector grease, I use Vaseline for over 10 years. Vaseline (petroleum jelly) works well also. But it drips when it's hot. But Vaseline never damaged any things on my boat and friends'
I never had corroded FF connectors.
The only bad products are some spray cans I think. But I can't confirm.

Thanks you all for the information I hope to buy some grease soon and get out on the water.
Joe, not sure if it was a typo but it is Minh not Dinh. Anyway as always you and the others were very helpful. I think I will use Vaseline in the winter and grease in the summer.Ocean Kayak Trident 13: Sand

Just wondering but could I stick what ever I want into the FF that is not corrosive i.e. butter and not ruin the unit (not saying that I will lol) because I might try the grease I have but don't want to ruin the unit.Ocean Kayak Trident 13: Sand
