  • Looking or some help......

    Hello Everyone,

It seems to me, that the big options are:

    - Screen size.
    - B/W or Color
    - Two beam or one beam.
    - GPS included, or not.
    - High definition or regular.
    - Showing what the sonar senses, vs the machine
    - Guessing' what it is and drawing pictures of fish on the screen.
    - Portable bag or not (Why don't you just get your own bag?)
    - Main brands: Lowrance, Garmin, Humminbird

Of the three brands, the model that fits my needs (at least I think) are:
Lowrance Mark 5x DSI, Humminbird 571 HD DI, and Garmin Echo 200

The model that I'm kind of leaning towards is the: Garmin Echo 200. But, I wanted to see what you guys think?

Here's my summary of the various models:

    -- Lowrance:
    ** Advantages:
    ++ Has internal battery
++ Seems to have really high-end stuff--that I cannot afford. But, maybe these features will trickle down to lower priced units.

    ** Disadvantages:
++ In the lower priced units with B/W and DI units (like: Lowrance Mark-5x DSI $199)--seems to have low online reviews: http://www.basspro.com/Lowrance-Mark...duct/10209988/

    -- Humminbird:
    ** Advantages:
++ Seems to have really high-end stuff--that I cannot afford. But, maybe these features will trickle down to lower priced units.
++ The 571 HD DI seems like a real nice unit: http://store.humminbird.com/products/604315/571_HD_DI

    ** Disadvantages:
++ At $250, more then what I wanted to spend.
++ Does not have an internal battery.

    -- Garmin:
    ** Advantages:
++ Seems to have the best reviews for lower prices unit (http://www.cabelas.com/product/Garmi...h-All+Products)

    ** Disadvantages:
++ Does not have really high end units. So, don't know what kind of trickle down features have been put into the unit.
++ Does not have an internal battery

What do you think? Thanks for your advice!!

I went to Basspro during lunch, and found out:

-- Garmin 200 screen is very hard to read.
-- I was surprised how good the Garmin 500C looked, in comparison to the 550C. Even though the 500C has 1/4 the pixel count.
-- The sales men said: Garmin was supposed to have a new line of touch screen fishfinders at the beginning of the year.
-- HTe salesman really liked the Lowrance models the best. But, they cost a lot more.

So, I'm thinking of the Garmin 500C now.

Daddyg: If the deal is still available, I'll take it. I can come by sometime. I work in Ft. Meade.
