Low Memory Mono

I usually use 50# mono line for leaders. Trilene Big Game is Ok, but it has a bit of kinkiness, that is, memory. Ande Premium also is not that limp. Sea Striker is probably the worst I've tried so far - lots of memory.

Any recommendations on the best low memory 50# mono? I could go with fluorocarbon, but I prefer cheaper mono.

I really like Hi-Seas Quattro for my leader material. Very abrasion resistant but also stiff. It can be hard to find though!

I found some, but in bulk spools. Will look for smaller spools. It comes in four-color camo line - a bit weird, but should be worth a try. Thanks.

I have used just about every brand out there- Cajun Red, Ande clear, Shakespeake, Berkley Big Game, Trielene....I like 50-80# Ande Clear for bite leaders (making up rigs) like tog fishing, bottom rigs for Blue Cats, live bait rigs for live lining, etc. For regular leaders on bass tackle I use 20# Trilene (it is what I have)....Usually the mono you use for leader materials is not going to fail if it is not old and rotten-

I used to use Ande clear also, mostly #50, for trolling leaders. It always seemed to work great.

Do you guys use Ande Premium or Tournament? Or does it make any difference with regard to memory?

I use the regular Ande 40#. I haven't had any issues with it. It's a little curly off the spool, but I usually tie my leaders the night before and give it a little stretch by putting my lure on the hook keeper or last guide. Not too tight though. that usually gets rid of that memory retention so that I hardly notice it while fishin.

+1... I didn't know it was called premium. LOL But from looking at their site, that's what the standard line is! Dag... thought I bought something "premium"!

do any of you guys use 50# trolling for stripers? was thinking about buying some 30lb floro, but I have a spool of ande 50# and thought I should save the money

Only as a leader material- I use 30 pound braid on my reels

Thanks Ron, I have 40lb braid main line and was wondering if the bigger stripers would shy away from 50lb leader

We routinely use a double strand of 80 lb. test Ande mono to connect our trolling rigs from our wire lines on the charter boat. The fish can see them, but it doesn't matter. Rockfish are not leader shy. For summer trolling we switch over to 40-50 lb. test braid with the same leaders.
The biggest issue is if you are yak trolling: will you have enough resistance and current to straighten out any coils?
I'd recommend that you pre-stretch the leaders by running it with some resistance through your fingers to remove any coils.
50 lb. test is fine as a leader but I wouldn't want to use it as my running line. A bit too wiry, especially in cold water for me.
Also, use good quality ball bearing swivels with solid rings to connect with. Barrel swivels are useless, split rings can open under pressure from that trophy of a lifetime.

Interesting approaches to leader use. I don't do much yak trolling. I'm more concerned about having low memory mono to build leaders for jigging and bottom fishing. It's just one of those little annoyances in trying to tie knots with kinky line. You know, it's one of those "fishing things" we anglers face...lol......
