  • IYO What is the best/most comfortable kayak seat?

I need to get a new seat for my yak. What do you guys use on your rigs? I was looking at the surf to summit gts expedition seat but would rather not spend 200$. Do you guys know of anything comparable. i am generally on the yak 5+ hours each time i do fish so i need something with a lot of support and i also have a problem with butt puddling in my kayak so something raised would be better. Let me know what you guys think.

I use a surf and summit seat. I think it is called an expedition seat. It costs $199 dollars at West Marine. You may have to order it, but it is worth a few days wait. I can sit in that seat all day without feeling crippled when I get out of the kayak. Don't buy the same seat with the rod holders or the bag, they suck, but the seat is great. You can save money without the rod holder or the bag. You can have ample rod holders built in or in a crate. This seat also raises you off the kayak. Your butt also won't be hurting after sitting for long fishing trips.

thanks dogfish i will probably go that route but get the expedition seat with the hydration sleeve bag built into the back instead of the rodholder setup.

Thats a good idea. However, I need to keep my beer cold. I shouldn't get that whole beer thing going again. The last time it led to a funny path of posts. However, hydration is always good while kayaking.

All in all, that is a great seat.

          Kayak Seat

I am also looking for a seat for my BassPro 12ft Ascend SOT. Is that Seat a universal for All kayaks? I'm going to look it up on their web site when I get off of here

I believe so, it hooks up on the eyelets on the kayak. If yours is similar to the Ocean Kayaks and most others, I would say yes.

i was thinking of upgrading my revo seat with the StS expedition, i guess it would be possible to remove the seat pegs from the old seat and install them in the expedition.

Sam--I'm pretty sure I heard of someone doing that on the KFS forum, and it worked out well. They might've used a soldering iron to put a little hole for the screws and to keep the fabric from unraveling.

                    I think I'm going to get this - http://www.austinkayak.com/products/...ck-System.html

My OK seat sucks. After about 3 hours my butt would go numb, after a few days my lower back would ache and I could barely pick up a dollar of the ground. I fixed the numb butt with a 5 dollar stick on pad under the seat... now I need to work on the lower back.

Has anyone seen one or heard reviews about them? I want a StS seat but they are $$$!. Austin Kayak has a 20% off coupon this month - f11vcaei plus free shipping, seems like a better deal. I wish they carried StS though.

i was actually looking at seats yesterday. my kayak has no butt scupper. i had a few consecutive days last year of 5-8hrs of seat time basically sitting in water that lead to some nasty bumps on my rear end. i wont go any further... i'd like to hear about those skwoosh seats thought. i came across this one on ebay.

That seat looks pretty flat. The surf to summit, expedition, is the one. It is alittle higher off the kayak.

Most guys look at the few seats everyday.

have you tried switching the seat with the WS one from your ride 135? WS has a good seat for a stock one. but that swoosh one looks awsome

Mine has the molded in seat, it is fixed and flips up. It's not bad but slips a lot, need to work on that this season.

I got lucky the used OK I bought had the Surf to summit seat with the basic pack on the back, sets a little higher and doesn't have much ventilation so you sweat a little more on the legs and rear, but the thing is comfortable.

Redfish, try moving the straps, mine did the same thing until I moved the straps further back.
Don't know if it works until you try it.
