  • Another Hobie Revolution Rocket Launcher Build

so yesterday i built some rocket launchers/rod holders out of PVC, pretty much how you have seen built here by others. while trying to fall asleep last night, an idea popped in my head. i'll tell you what, it made it harder to fall asleep and that's all i could think about during work!

so today i i went at it again after work. basically, i didnt want rods right behind my seat, because it would limit my access to my milk crate or gear bag, and definitely, trying to get bait out of my livewell when i bring it.

i ended up making a couple modifications to the standard. instead of 90 degree elbows, i used Tee's at the turns. this made the original rod holders still functional, so i wouldn't need to put holders right behind the seat on the cross brace. i did put one tee behind the seat, which is for my visipole when in use and in that location, i still have full access to the crate or live well.

i did use a tee at turn closest to the seat, and that was more of a who knows, it's a hole, and maybe something could be stuck in there, like pliers, ruler, etc, in the future.

i did use screws on the under side but i probably should add some on the top as well. even though i used 1/2" screws, i will still have to grind down the points 1/8" as not to touch/mess up my rod handles.

i painted it lime green only to be different . i can tell the paint wont last, as i should have sanded the pvc at the least, but i was too lazy. i'll do another coat later, and when the paint chips, and if i care, i can just add another coat. i tried a test piece of pvc using primers, no primers, clear coats, and they all could be scratched off with a fingernail.

Cool.....mean green fishing machine.....lol..... Did you use paint good for plastic? I used it (I think it was Krylon or Rustoleum) on PVC and it's pretty durable. It does scratch off, but only if metal or a hard sharp object grazes it pretty hard. Anyway, sometimes I get that way too - a problem bug sticks in your head and you can't stop thinking about it.

Nice job, I like the tees exiting the original rod holders so they can still be utilized. I sanded my contraption before I painted the PVC....it doesn't help, it still scratches easily.

i did see home depot has a variety of colored duct tape. i did purchase a bright green color and wrapped my test piece of pvc. it may be an option, but will probably have that cast look. i doubt the fish care, so i'l probably stick with chipped paint, ha.

Nice work. Always good to see different DIY rocket launchers. This gives me some ideas for modification. I might put some loop screws to tether things to. Hey is that glow in the dark paint you used? Cool color.

Nice, I like the way you have that setup and the green really adds something extra. The T pieces are a good idea so the existing rod holders are still useable.
I need to make one of these up for myself. What size PVC did you use? i have some 1.5" PVC around that I've used for rod holders, but it doesn't fit my revos rod holders.

the pvc that goes into the rod holder is 1.25", which i then bump up to a 1.50" tee using a 1.50" to 1.25" reducer. the rest is 1.50" pipe and fittings
