YakAttack does, but it fits their blackpak and sits sideways on the yak- Tufnick's solution is what I copied- works great, is secure and out of the way- "Mine is longer than yours", but is it a legal keeper? Yesterday, I must have had a dozen stripers that looked at the legal size only to be slightly short when measured-

For the leagal limit I just mark off a lenghth on the kayak or paddle, for a quick check. Also, on the bars on the PA there is a measuring area marked off, which I use. The trough just seems to be one more thing for me to forget. Thats just me, understand, no offense meant.

None taken- folks have differences of opinions- that's what makes this forum so great- you get to have several different looks- each kayak is laid out differently for styles of fishing, etc. I do mostly trolling- mostly artificial lures- rare for me to bait fish, although for certain targeted species it is the only way to go- and I have setups for that (and I change my setups, rod holders, etc. when I am targeting for those fish)- I take a tape measure with me when I am fishing for Cobia- Hog Trough stays in the truck- 37 inches for a Virginia keeper-"Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS

I think its kind of lousy that some tournaments are mandating the use of the Hawg Trough ONLY. But alas, I bought one so I wouldn't be left out.
I started taking it with me so I could get used to using it. Unfortunately on my 2nd trip out after checking the length of a 17" striper I wasn't very careful putting it back and I heard it slide into the water. Immediately I tried to get back to it but could only watch it slip beneath the waves and slowly descend like Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic.
I like the foam and backing board ideas in this thread and wish I had read them sooner. But I think for now, I'll just get Boat Rul-R to stick to my paddle. One less thing I have to bring.2018 Hobie Outback (seagrass)

Yep that is why I did mine- lost one after an long, epic battle with a bat ray- watched it spiral down into the depths...now if I drop mine it floats and is easily retrieved...and it is much stronger-"Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS

I recently purchased a BlackPak. I've been very pleased with it. It's well made and has given me extra tackle carrying capacity in my space-challenged Revo. One unexpected benefit was that it gave me an efficient way to store my Hawg Trough.
Although you can purchase Hawg Trough carriers made specifically for the BlackPak I made my own by threading bungee cord ($1.00 at Michael's Craft Store) through existing holes in the box.
See photo here:

I also drilled a hole in the Hawg Trough to tether it to the kayak with para cord.

It has indeed saved mine from sinking to the bottom on several occasions.
I don't view the Hawg Trough as an ego booster. I simply like to know what I'm catching. It's amazing how that 20 inch fish at the side of my kayak becomes 17 inches when I lay it on the board.Mark

I understand why they want hawg trough...too hard to read most other boards when displayed on phone or camera. Otherwise, they would have to download all the pics which takes a lot of time. Too bad the manufactirer does not address this...

This is how i attach my hawg trough to my yak. Theres a rubber roller on the bungee so that it slides under with ease. I just have to make the trough more boyant.Jason

I just got mine in the mail today for ACK and they still don't have the lines painted. I guess I'm going to have to add floatation and use a marker to darken the tick marks to make them more visible. You would think the company that makes these things would have fixed those things by now.*********************************

I picked up some 1/2" "poly foam caulk saver to make it float, will be doing that minor mod this evening...we'll see if the sharpie comes back out for the rest of the lines.Hobie fleet:

The cardboard is flexible enough to follow the curvature of the trough. After I started using that, my lines looked much straighter (even before the beer).
More testing is required; I guess I'll have to finish up by marking the quarter inch lines.
