Side mirror on car busted by my kayak....

Perhaps someone here has experienced this: while taking my kayak off the roof of my car, I got lazy and allowed it to slide down the side of the car where it knocked off the side mirror. It's still hanging by the wires but I'm hoping to epoxy or glue it back together. It's made of plastic of some sort. Can someone recommend the proper adhesive? thanks in advance.

I did this about 3 years ago. My mirror is still going strong with black duct tape, can barely even tell it's broken haha... the electric mirror adjustments still work too

Mine happened when my roommate in college was helping me take the kayak off and it slipped out of his hands right onto the mirror. oops oh well

ha, i remember when grilled's kayak slid down his old acura's hood. wasn't there but did see the damage and post paint job!


epoxy does do wonders though with broken plastic!

Sorry to hear about your broken mirror. I wouldnt waste time trying to glue or tape it unless your car is a beater and/or you dont care about looks. Mirrors are fairly cheap and replacing them is very easy usually only held on by 3 nuts or bolts and an electrical connector for the power function if equipped.Goto a place like www.rockauto.com or ebay and buy a mirror for usually under 50 bucks and you'll never have to worry about it falling off. I work in a dealership and replacing side mirrors is a routine thing, many people hit their garage or mailbox or whatever. The broken mirrors frequently have epoxy or tape job that failed then they finally break down and replace it. I would just recommend skipping the bandaid and just replace it from the beginning and save yourself the hassle. Sucks but not as expensive as you would think.

Busted mine when topping my boat, after a long day on the Pisccataway. Ever notice when you put out, your yak weighs maybe 50lbs but when you land and try to re-load, it weighs more like 85?

I have noticed it seems a lot easier to get into my yak to launch than to get out at recovery- might have something to do with my energy level after five or six hours of exercise- getting old isn't for sissies...

Ah, guess I'm not only one this happened to recently. I made a small dent on side of suv but managed to catch it before hit side mirror.
