Kayak Leaning Post ??

Has anyone tried to make a leaning post for your kayaks? I would really like to have one for bass fishing this year but would rather not spend 260$ to pick up this system,

...although it is exactly what i want. Not looking to put outriggers on it so ill probably go in the drink a few times but it would make flycasting SO much easier and a bit more comfortable to stand.

I have seen people make the outrigger out of PVC, Ram Mounts and lobster Buoys.

With that you might not need the leaning post. Tie a rope to the fron handle to help you pull your self and bamn.

yeah i dont want outriggers my kayaks pretty damn stable standing up im not worried about that i just wanna be able to stand up for extended periods of time casting. i mean dont get me wrong i'll prob build riggers at somepoint but for right now i just want the post.

At my weight that aluminium leaning post would stand no chance. I see myself leaning back on it and crumpling it. Might even cause the kayak to pop a wheelie

I have thought about some outriggers though. Would be nice on a lake or back water to stretch the legs and sight cast. Might have to add that to the list of to do's

I have outriggers on my outback, but I mostly used them when I'm going out in some choppy water. I've used them to stand while fishing, but you definitely need something to hold onto. If I decide to do this, all I need is to put a long rod (ie, sail mast) into the mast holder. This allows me to kind of tuck my elbow around it while fishing.

It seems like you could make a leaning post like the one shown by modifying a folding step ladder for probably under $50. Just drill the feet to accept a pin. on your kayak you'll have to mount cleats that will also accept this pin.

Or how about making something out of PVC that mounts into your rod holders?

Just wait for the swing and miss hookset... Splash!!! I was throwing a castnet at smith mountain lake last summer and when I went to pull up my haul I flipped right over the side the first time I tried. Really takes some getting used to pulling it from 10+ feet down!

There is a guy on kfs that has a PVC rod holder mount that goes across his trident and down into the scuppers. You could do that and add a bar up from that, would be goofy but you could use pins to flip it forward when not in use.
