  • Question about tracks and rod holders

I have a Native Water Craft Manta Ray 11. I have fished out of it quite a bit since I bought it, but still don't have it "rigged"

It has the two "tracks" and I'm keep going over the things on hooked 1 that are available, but I just don't understand what I need to buy. Do some of them come ready to just slide into the tracks or do I need to by specail track mounting hardware as well??

Any guidance would be truly appreciated.

    Thanks
    ORANGE NATIVE MANTA RAY 11

You need the ram balls or scotty adapter that has the little slide screw to lock down into the tracks.

I just made my own mounts. If you have some basic tools, it is pretty easy to do using a cutting board and some stainless steel hardware. I think there are instructions on here somewhere if you search. 1/8" x 3/4" flat stock from the hardware store should fit perfect in the tracks. Just cut the flat stock and tap threads. Toilet bolts supposedly work well (easier and cheaper). Cut the cutting board to desired size and heat up the hex nuts to melt into the cutting board for mounting your scotty or ram.

One source that may help for nuts that fit into the various tracks (like this):

As an example you can get these stainless steel nuts from McMaster-Carr for about a buck a piece.

go to McMaster-Carr and search "weld nuts" for some other sizes/options to find one with the right width for your track.

I use Scotty gear head track adaptors #438. They accept standard Scotty rod holders. I use one on either gear track in front of me for trolling. I have been very happy with mine.

I rotate the rods out to the side when trolling.

I also used cutting board to make my own mounts:

                  mounts.jpg

To secure the Scotty mounts to the cutting board, I used serrated tee nuts and heated them up with a propane torch so that when I tightened them up, they melted flush into the underside of the cutting board then used a Dremmel tool and file to make sure it was all smooth:

                  mount.jpg

                  mount2.jpg

To secure the assembly to the slide rails, I used the Mighty Bolts and threaded knobs from YakAttack: http://yakattack.us/Products/MightyMount.html

You could also use the YakAttack Mighty Mount that is on the above linked web page, but I found it more cost effective to make my own. I got both slidetrax mounts, my anchor cleat mount and fishfinder mount all from one $10.00 cutting board.

Thank you John. I was thinking that would be a good way to go, but now confirmed by the Native "Pro", obviously it would be a great choice
