I just called my Hobie dealer, the yak should be here on Friday. They also did order the battery kit for me, which I was very surprised about even though I have no idea what they plan on charging me for it. The kit in general seems a little expensive but it will save me a bunch of runs into town from my place hunting down all of the parts. It looks like all of my rigging gear will arrive by Friday and I should be rigging all day on Friday. I think I'll try to take picture and video to share all of my limited successes and a bunch of failures.

Oh, and if anyone in southern maryland wants to visit Dameron to have a few beers and watch/help me rig my yak, you're more than welcome, hint, hint.

I did get it and got most of my rigging gear. I got lucky and got a 2014 boat. There are a few unexpected differences. I made a video before I started drilling holes. I will try to post it and send a link.

I got to splash the new boat on Saturday with the gang at the Meet-and-Greet event held at Point Lookout State Park. It was a beautiful day and the boat performed better than expected. I just loaded a video on YouTube of the boat before I started rigging it.

And here are some pictures from Saturday...

Sweet ride! I almost opted for the green instead of the yellow when I was at the dealer, I liked both.. what size gear track did you end up mounting on the plates? I'm debating whether or not to get some. I like the idea of them but with the two rod holders in the back and 6 at my feet, all I really need is 1 on each plate up front, and to mount the FF.. I'm thinking I might save myself 80 bux and do a Scotty flush mount on either side and just direct mount the FF base

I put a 16" YakAttack Gear Track on each mounting board. They fit fine and still had room for more stuff if needed. The track system is nice and gives you a lot of flexibility.

I just loaded a follow-up YouTube video of where I'm at with rigging the yak thus far. Let let me know if you guys have any suggestions fixes or enhancements to help me out on the water. I've been fishing the boat on the bay the last few week. Unfortunately, I don't have any good reports on hauling in keeper rockfish. I've caught lots of smaller ones but been struggling to land the mid 20-inchers I'm looking for. Enjoy the video and please understand I'm lot looking for any awards on my film making skills.

I just pulled the trigger on a '13 PA 12 at Backyard Boats. Dennis was very helpful and got me set up with the basics. With work and the holidays, I won't be picking it up until sometime in January which is killing me! I'll be following everyone's rigging suggestions closely!

Does anyone have a source for vinyl wrapping vehicles? I'm looking at putting my company logo on the boat and also maybe making it a little more visible with brighter colors. Thoughts?

I have made a few mistakes this far in my rigging but making some corrections soon. I had a long conversation with a guy from YakAttack today and I'm getting some new gear next week. They are sending more some new gear that they haven't quite rolled out for sale yet and its going to help me with a few issues. I am fixing the rigging for my Lowrance unit and they are sending me a new rod holder they developed with help from Ram that will work on the GearTrack. I will post info on the new gear after I get it.

I watched your vid .BTW great job. I think you are on point with your observations about your set-up. Now it is about what suits your fishing style and comfort. For example going to the pistol grip style rod holder may make you a little more comfortable with rod stability. Also the change you want to make on your FF bracing to the trac system my suggestion would be, if at all possible, is maybe visit a dealer or another kayaker the has the 1.5 t-mount ram ball and connect to your trac system to test it out to see if it increases stability of your unit.
Good luck and see you out there.

Thanks, that's pretty much in a nutshell what I'll be doing next week. The gear should be in the mail and on its way. The engineers at YakAttack have been working with Ram on some new cool stuff. I couldn't quite follow the guy on the phone but I am getting one of their new trolling rod holders and a 1.5" ball mounts and holder for my FF. The ball mount I'm getting somehow moves up and down the track without having to unscrew the ball. I'm not exactly sure what they are sending me yet. I ordered over the phone and their new website was down earlier today. I now they have been working hard to improve their website and are rolling out a bunch of new products.

To add a little bling and to allow for screw-ups, I was considering using the mounting board as templates for some teak or mahogany replacements. I've got some scrap laying around the shop so it's free for all intents and purposes. I bought 12" gear tracks so that should give me flexibility, but I always feel better going with trial and error.

I'm looking forward to being able to troll more than two lines at once. I figure I'll use my short boat rods (5' or so) in the flush rod holders behind the seat and then run a couple 6'-6" or 7' rods forward from the gear track to get enough spread. Anybody try planer boards? I'm not sure I understand the guys putting rocket launchers on these boats. Can anybody tell me why they prefer a PVC rocket launcher over individual rod holders?

I have not heard of using planers so I can't speak to how easy or cumbersome it would be, but I can tell you I run two lines and I can guarantee you that multiple lines will get tangled unless after hooking up you can keep the boat moving straight. A 16inch(Drum/Rock) fish can actually make the boat do a 360 using light tackle. That is why I only use mono,it is easier to untangle. If you run more than three lines, they are used mostly as search tools. If you get into fish it can be a welcomed nightmare to experience. I think JVeil uses up to 4 rods when he fishes.
As far as the rocket tubes I only use them in the rear of the kayak only to store my rods. The tube makes them easier to reach than the flush mount. Plus they keep the water off of the rods.

I used to run two and occasionally three lines from my SIK. I was thinking the two shorter, heavier rods could run larger/deeper tackle and the two lighter rods could run crank baits or small/lighter bucktails and BAs. I was thinking more about the ease of putting lines out with the peddles, hadn't really thought about it not changing the dynamics of landing a fish. And yes, I've been pulled around before...lots of fun!

You can run multiple lines if you have a motto or a hobie just keep pedaling and steer ......... Use dipsey drivers to get them out and vary rod lengths, line lengths and depths ........... Also beware of the drag factor when you choose lures pulling multiple
