  • Trolling motor shaft length question

For those of you who have used a trolling motor on a side mount, what length should I cut my shaft to? The size motor I am looking at comes with a 36 inch shaft. I have cut Minn Kota shafts for canoes before so I know how to do it, I just want to get it done over the winter. My SWAG is that 20 inches should work. ???

    Regards,
    John

Ive cut a shaft for a different application and I would suggest you try it out in the water then mark where it should be. Cant put material back once you cut.

I agree but I have 36 inches so plenty to play with.
