    Baicaster Maintenance

    Just this past season, I purchased my first baitcaster after 40+ years of using spincast reels only. I am now hooked. Where can I go to get my reel serviced (cleaned and lubed).

    I would also be open to learning how to do it myself. I am a fairly accomplished homebrewer and would be willing to trade beer or a brewing lesson in exchange for some instruction.

          Servicing baitcasters isnt really to difficult, main thing i like to do to mine is to take Q-tips and clean all the gunk out of the cracks, grease the level wind, and drop oil in all the bearings and maybe add some grease to the gear box. I only use the oil shimano supplies. With spinning reels, i like to put a drop on the roller for the bail, (gotta take it apart to get to the bearing) a few drops in the gear box, one on the main shaft, and undo the handle. Theres a bearing in there as well.

            i would say ive become very good at maintaining my bait casters.. been doing it for 2 years atleast 3 times a year and ive got it done to extensively cleaning my bait casters 8 of them in under 30 minutes.


            and ill put all my credit to you tube videos.

            They walk you through everything. There are even videos on exact reels.

            That way you can go in side of your specific reel and clean and oil and grease the areas you should


            Check youtube and watch ALOT of videos to get a good grasp.

              When it is beyond my abilities or I need parts, I go to Phil! He's fixed a lot of reels and broken rods that I have brought him.

                  You can always mail your reel to Phil at Rod & reel Repair if you decide not to do it yourself. He does a lot of business that way.
