  • Preferred brand of rod holders??

There is a mind boggling amount of rigging options for my kayak! Yak Attack and Ram, Scotty, Railblaza.yak Attack will be my track system( is there any other brands?) but I am not sure about the accessories I will be mounting to them. I'm leaning towards Ram, with a couple of Zooka Tubes as well. Any one here prefer Scotty or Railblaza?

I've given that some thought as well Matt. Depending on my tax return, that may be a possible route as well.

Manufactured rod holders...I've had scotty rocket launchers and ram products. I prefer the scotty mounts with slip disks. I like the fact that scotty uses cogs/teeth to set the rod holders in position and the ease of the rocket launchers, just drop your rod in the holder. No need to lock down. I have a few ram mounts for cameras and accessories, but I do not trust the ball joint of a ram holder while trolling. +1 on a homemade pvc setup in the rear. It's great to carry a number of rods and have a few trolling options in the rear. Of course, the next post will prefer Ram over scotty...ford or chevy!

I use Scotty rod holders and mounting bases. They allow a great deal of flexibility in positions side-to-side and up-and-down directions. I do not like fixed position rod holders (like flush mount holders) for fishing. They work fine for holding spare rods when not in use.

Another vote for scotty. I use a variety of types but I just can't trust ram mounting balls to hold a rod during a strike.

I just got the Zooka Tube, post mount style, 6" arm, with included plunger deck mount from YakAttack and used the mighty mounts to attach it all to the kayak via the Gear Track. It is a very versatile and strong setup for telling or what ever. I like the Ram tubes with the balls for light use and to simply hold rods.
