Anyone mounted theirs like this? I wanted an in the water but don't want a scupper as the kayak would get used in the Potomac also and rock dragging on it. So I am considering this and a side drop arm. I just figured this would be out of the way more. I didn't know if anyone tried it or if a little bit of rolling waves would keep pulling it out of the water on the bay and mess my view?

I did the same on my Ride 135 with a Lowrance Mark 4. Stays safe but it seems to show some (turbulance) as I paddle. Not sure if it is my stroke or the settings on my FF. When I stop paddling and just glide or go with the current it is clear. On the screen it shows up like upside down triangles that fade out.Yellow WS Ride 135

Just make sure you don't lift the bow too high and drag when pulling the boat out of the water.John Veil

I have always used the drop arm and need a dashboard for my hunting blind. I was just hoping it would be a better place to keep it out the the way. Now it sounds like I might prefer the drop arm. Thanks guys."If you can't have fun doing it, it ain't worth doing." ... or you're just doing it wrong.

That install looks really clean and well done. Although, I don't think I'd do it that way. It looks vulnerable to damage from yak transport/launching/landing. I'd rather put it in the hull as a shoot though. That's how I had mine set up on my previous fishing yak. You do lose some accuracy doing a shoot though, but mostly for the temperature.Hobie fleet:

I think the cell block will be on my next yak. Having an accurate temperature reading has done more for me finding fish than anything else, thought about getting a separate thermometer but that is one more thing to forget or lose!

I have a side arm 'ducer mount. I never use it on the upper Potomac. The only problem with an arm is the drag it creates.....it tends to turn you in the direction on the side its mounted. Not a big deal overall, but it is annoying to be constantly correcting course.Young Apprentice

Having the ability to raise it with a string would be a good thing, but the whole mechanism would have to also be fairly tight so that the 'ducer doesn't move around throwing off the readings. Its going to be tough to position it in the wake area.....Doable with lotsa trial and error to get the proper positioning.
Personally, I like it simple. Not having a recessed well on the underside for the 'ducer like most of the newer yaks have, a swing arm is the simplest solution. Up when you don't need depth readings and down when you do.Young Apprentice
