Nice upgrade for Hobie Outback

This weekend I installed the center square hatch off the pro angler onto the outback. This upgrade gives me better access inside the haul and use the tackle tray or white tub option. I did some brain storming this winter and measured the pro angler hatch and said hmmm, this should work . Attached are pics of before and after, these pieces can be bought through Hobie separate.

That is an awesome idea and a solid upgrade. How did you get the square peg to fit in the round hole? Did you have to do any chiseling? Now you got me thinking about doing the same thing because that center hatch isn't good for much.

Alan,the hatch comes with a backing plate , I just laid the backing plate were I wanted it on the kayak and traced the inside and cut with a jig saw fine blade, it's shifted slightly to the port side to allow room to keep the bungee.......Hokie DJ, this hatch is too wide for my Revo

Nice Job, I always considered installing the larger hatch. It's usually where I place my personal belongings...cell phone, wallet, etc. It really fills up fast with the stock round insert. I know my 2013 outback actually has molded indentations marking the outline of the larger square hatch to make the install easier.
