  • Rigging

Throwing this out from a Newbie member.

I could use some education on rigging yaks for fishing. I have done a little but nothing like the seasoned folks on here probably have.

Adding rod holders (flush or scotty) pad eyes, lash hooks, etc. Use of the right fasteners. Mounting GoPro acessories, DF, drilling into the hulls, etc.

Has the board held such an event before? I noticed a post about a meet and greet that was held somewhere once.

Just asking. I have a Dirigo12 I bought from Quietwaters yak rentals and I want to rig it like the other Dirigo 12 I have that was already rigged when I bought it.

If you dont go, you wont know, and you got to have bait in the water.

      Dave,

I think you’ll find that that the saying “necessity is the mother of invention” applies to kayak rigging.

After you fish with your Dirigo a while you'll see how particular riggings can complement your fishing style.

Then I guarantee you that someone on this forum will know how to accomplish what you need.

        Mark,
yeah I understand. The one Dirigo12 I have has flush mount holders, one scotty up front, stays, bungee shrouds, made a trolly etc. The actual mounting of such needs is my dilema. I bought the accessories for another Dirigo 12 I have that I want to make into a fishing kayak like the one I have. Ill get her done.

Ha ha... sounds like someone is reluctant to drill a hole in their yak.
          We all go through this.

But its really no big deal. Two main things are 1) Have a plan, and 2) Use lots of Marine Goop.

With Scotty mounts, I'm a big fan of using backing plates.

I even like backing my pad eyes. Whenever I install a pad eye on the deck I place a second one on the underside of the deck. The second pad eye works like a backing plate and as a bonus gives me an attachment point inside the hull.

Last winter I wrote detailed installation guides for rod holders and FF/GPS on my Native Slayer Propel. They are based on installations I had made on previous paddle kayaks and adapted for the pedal-drive Slayer Propel. Those are posted at:
