  • Favorite soft plastic color for the bay...

...what is yours? I picked up a couple more packages of Z-Man DieZel MinnowZ (4" paddle tail) today.

I have been using white (pearl), by default...and have caught fish, but some of the other colors definitely have my attention.

I also have Electric Chicken, Pinfish, Space Guppy, Hot Chartreuse, Bad Shad and Opening Night.

I picked up the Bad Shad and Opening Night today, those have tinsel flash inside, which should be good if the water is clear enough and some light shining.

The thing I don't like about zmans is they melt. I like their redfish chatterbait, but they corrode too fast for something that was intended to be used in saltwater. I use bkds, hammer shads from powerteam lures, and saltwater assassins. My favorite colors are white, chartreuse, new penny, salt and pepper silver/chartreuse, electric chicken. I also like pink and purple colors for both soft and hard plastic.

I also use soft plastic shrimp from doa and vudu. I just recently got a vudu finger mullet in sort of salt pepper silver chartreuse that I am really excited to try. For shrimp, I like pink, rootbeer, natural, white/chartreuse, new penny.

I haven't had any of them melt. I've left them in the tray of my tackle box and in the round plastic tray that came with my Hobie. It's been three months now, and they are all still intact.

I have had other plastics melt in an old tackle box my dad gave me when I was a kid. My current Flambeau tackle box that I've had for at least 12 years hasn't had any plastics melt.

Supposedly if you store them in their original packaging they don't melt.

Yep. That is what I have noticed as well. I have some curly tails in the original package and they are fine. Also the chatterbaits in the original packages are fine. Vudu stuff will melt if it comes in contact with other soft plastics and says so right on the package. If that is the case with Zmans, I think they should at least put a disclaimer on the packaging. I have ruined some vudus, even though I knew better and those things are pricey. Another thing to watch is color bleed on certain soft plastics, especially bkds.

Pearl and Chartreuse are my go to colors, but the Opening night is amazing in early-mid summer. Maybe even longer, but that is the time when I see a lot of baitfish that have that light purple color and have done well with the opening night.

I picked up the Opening Night and Bad Shad yesterday, because they look the color of a lot of the bait I've been seeing on the bay lately.

There is a warning on the back of the Z-Man packages. I read somewhere that they are changing the text to a more noticeable color...but haven't seen any packages with it yet.

4" swimming mullet Gulp in Chatrues on white or red 3/8-1/2 oz jighead. WP and rock like it and has worked well for me. Flounder too if around. Worked well in IRI and RI in Lewes.

I purchased gulp lockers and extra recharge juice. No problems with them staying in good condition. Keep all tackle in basement out of sunlight and heat.

                    Go gettem.

If you dont go, you wont know, and you got to have bait in the water.

^ What deadwood said, that's what I use and they work.

I catch the most fish on white and shades thereof.

I use more gulp than soft plastic. Love that stuff. 4,5, and 6" swimming mullets and shrimp.

I use white, chartreuse and electric chicken the most. I use salt water assassins the most. I keep my plastics in a small jelly jar with Gulp Alive fluid. They never melt and it seems to enhance their effectiveness. When I take them off the hook, I just throw them back in the jar and shake it a little. They stay soft and usable that way.
