  • Where to Launch this weekend..

Latest satellite imagery of the Bay.. http://mddnr.chesapeakebay.net/nasai...ua250meter.jpg

And the MSSA tournament is this weekend. I want to try further south then SPSP and avoid Breezy Point I think because of the MSSA crowds. The good thing is, they have to have lines out at 3:30.
I have never launched a Yak south of the Bridge and only ever gone out of Breezy Point in the past from boats. Looking for a place that is close to Fairfax.. So, I am looking at North Beach, (Though it is questionable if that is usable as a kayak launch, and the beach looks super steep and eroded), there's another park called Bay Front park, and a Marina in Chesapeake Beach next to a water park. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to launch from on Saturday? The 301 Bridge on the Potomac and the mouth of the Rappy or even Tappahannock in Virginia are all further then the Chesapeake beach areas, even from Fairfax, Va, go fig. Soloman's is a bit further as well. Suggestions?

The launch out of Chesapeake Beach is nice because of the big boat ramp. I'm not sure what the cost is, though. If things are too crazy out in the Bay, you could always try Fishing Creek for perch. Those breakwaters at the mouth of the creek always looked like they'd hold some fish.

After braving the boat traffic in the Bay Monday, I think I'll let the folks spend their money filling up those high dollar boat gas tanks and racing up and down the Bay chasing gulls and breaking fish for a week or so. After they spend a thousand or so dollars on gas for four or five fishing trips the Bay should quiet down a bit- figure five gallons of gas is roughly $25.00 and the average boat burns about 5 gallons an hour - about $400 for an eight hour day fishing just for the gas for the boat plus snacks, tackle, bait and gas for the truck to tow it...and the stained (muddy) water should clear up in a week or so, too- I will practice some patience.

          Good luck Metro!
I think I may stay close to home and fish the Occoquan tomorrow since I did not make it out today. Plan to catch herring, and fish that for cat fish. Maybe hit the bay next week weather permitting.

I am looking for somewhere to fish also. I am booked on Saturday, unless it is a late launch in the afternoon. I am looking more at Sunday since the winds look real good. I hear there are croakers and cats at bushwood in southern, md. I am not sure where I am going, but it will definitely be south of the Bridge or the eastern shore If I can find anyone else to make the journey to any of those locations.

Moc- I want to go bad Sunday, but I am going Groundhog Hunting today in Southern PA and promised the wife I would help her Sunday with the yard and putting in flowers, shrubs, etc. If anything changes I'll give you a call- The lower Potomac is heating up and fishing is getting better- lots of big stripers are in the Bay.

PS- my down imaging transducer works shooting thru the hull using the duct seal wet well system. Even the temp-

On my way with the missus to the boat out of the South River. Gonna be one of those crazies out on the bay trying to troll up a big'un. Weather looking good!
