Ram ball slippage

OK, I am still a newbie hear when yak fishing. Had similar issues with the ram mounts. I got what I think is the cure. Got the non-slip grip tape used on concrete or wood steps self adhesive. I cleaned the inside of the mounts with acetone for a good connection. Added 2 pieces inside on each side of the ram mounts, then mounted onto the balls and tighten them down over night. Not sure how this would work with big fish, but 2 weeks ago got into double headers of stripers, the mount did not move. Trolled umbrellas and the mount did not move. Had trouble with the lowrance not holding, added this to the mount, fish finder did not move. Had trouble with the visicarbon flag moving, did the same on the yak attack mount, no more problems. Not sure if this is a permanent fix, but so far it works and its cheap. Oh, I also made bungies on a clip to clip the rods to the ram mount holes. Hook the bungie over the handle of the reel. Real simple, fish hits, pull the bungie off the handle and grab the rod.Freddie T

I don't trust ram balls for holding my rods, no way. Like sparky said, great for accessories but I'd probably have lost all my rods if I wasn't using Scotty's.

I started a thread a while back because I was worried about this happening. And guess what it doesn't. I had two 15" blues hit the Sam rig today and a 18" rock with a 15" no problem. I mean the drag was screaming today. Even left a rod with full drag no worries. I use low drag and ram tubes and have hot up with lots of fish this year. Just my 2 cents.Cuda 14

So yesterday I had a couple minutes to play with the rig and tried turning the tube so that "slot" runs port to starboard, not bow to stern as I had it. It seems to be MUCH more solid.LL Bean (Perception) Manatee DLX Angler 9.5'

I've commented on this issue in the past. Spent 3 days in the Salt fishing 3 states in 3 days. Granted nothing big, But got fish on each day. The ram ball mounts did not move, even with umbrellas on. I added non-slip grip tap used on concrete and wood inside the mounts. With high winds and rough seas, the mounts did not move. Of course I add a SS clip to a bungie and secure to the handles of the rods. Just in case. I use baitrunner reels with secondary drags that kicked in a couple of times. That helps.Freddie T
