I have a hero 3 black"... The battery gives me fits when the Bluetooth is on.1-2 hours of life in standby. Max. Also the wifi remote is horrible the phone ap is much better.....but, I did see a mod on YouTube for the battery to add a USB power source that will run for along time...
meh, sounds like a bunch of headaches all around. watching someone's POV GOpro is like watching family vacation slideshows from the 70's, with heavy breathing in my ear to boot. (even exciting videos like real-life combat are usually better third person). just show me a few well composed stills of fish/angler/boat/background.
I purchased a like-new, deep V aluminum boat off Craiglist for what some of you guys spend on GoPro. Which one will be in the trash can six years from now?
The Brunton "all day" battery pack is a pretty nice upgrade I got for my 3+, not that much $$ either. Makes it easy to recharge as well, as you only need to plug it in and no longer have to remove the battery.

I use only one battery for GoPro 4 (Silver with built in screen) for my one day fishing video (1080p 30frame) while I used two batteries for GoPro 3 with additional LCD screen. It looked the battery life is extended by a lot on GoPro 4. I also use Wasabi Charger and batteries.
I don't take a video for more than 10 minutes. My videos are 2-4 minutes long. I usually have 40-60 videos for one day fishing.
Those who planning to buy Gopro 4 for fishing videos but thinking the price is too high,
I am thinking getting a GoPro hero ($140) because I do not use any features except taking videos and photos on GoPro 4 and 3. I don't look at the photos or videos taken while fishing. I never had time to look at the videos/photos taken already while fishing. Instead, I want to fish more. I use a laptop for editing when I come home. So for me GoPro 4 (starting FROM $400) is a big waste of money. All I need is two 32gb memory cards because I am not deleting any videos/photos while fishing. I replaced the memory cards while fishing if a memory card is full. I use regular cameras for other purposes, such as party because of no distorted images on the regular cameras.
I also have the Silver Hero 4. They had a special deal at HTO a while back...$50 off, plus 5% membership rebate on a gear card (REI was running a similar deal at the same time). I have not used it for fishing yet, but have been using it snowboarding quite a bit the last month or so. I have no experience with any other gopro or action cam, but on this one I do have to carry an extra battery when I use it out snowboarding--I am not running it constantly or even close and set the auto off for 1 or 2 minutes. Sometimes I am riding from 50-70 mph on my snowboard, so I think the wind combined with the cold must cause the batteries to die faster than when used for fishing or other activities. I am able to pull some really nice images off the videos. I really like the Hero 4 Silver and would recommend it, but like I said no experience with others to compare it to.
I've been wondering what to get for my next camera. Definitely need something with sound as I would like to narrate during the video, and my VIO POV doesn't pick it up that well.
Anybody know of another camera with looping?
I made a video, talking about it the loop function on the VIO POV, as well as some battery .
I just picked up a Hero 4 black from Cabela. It was an open box special and a discount I could not turn down. Anyway, not knowing anything about this camera, I did notice it has a looping feature in the settings.

Just glad I can get at least 24hrs straight continuous with the VIO POV.....just guessing, but I've been out at least twice, on a single battery charge.....not real sure how long it'll really last.....maybe a camp/fishing trip is required.
But that's why I bought this one......oh and I bought it used/refurb.
I watched a conversion video. To allow to go pro to run off a battery that's connected to a usb cable that you adapt onto onto a battery.. that's still waterproof. Costed about 10$ n can last 36 hours. Need a huge memory card tho
