Custom Rods

[Yak Fish]

Got out fishing with Steve Fogle who makes custom rods for the guys on the bay. I thought his jigging rod was pretty awesome, so I'm going to get one. It made me think though....we could work with him to make custom kayak rods. Anyone have thoughts as to what would make them kayak specific? I often hate the long rod butt ends because they get in the way, but for jigging I kinda like it because I can tuck it under my arm.

I had a spinning rod made last year for my kayak, not by Steve, however.

Regarding my personal kayak rod attributes:

It's 7 feet to allow me to reach out to move a fish across the bow from the right to the left side of my kayak. I prefer to land fish on the left.

It has a cap on the butt of the handle to protect the cork from damage when inserting it into a rod holder.

It has a soft tip to allow me to throw top water.

It has my name on it.

Steve did mention that most rods he builds for kayakers are 7'. I wasn't sure why but you may have hit the nail on the head.
