Hello and was just curious if anybody has used the new fishfinders from Lowrance with the "Chirp" feature which from my readings states it runs mutliple freq's at the same time to provide greater detail. I am sure it can't hurt to have just hoping somebody here has it and can push me over the edge to get one.

Kimbro writes about them in his new book, and he thinks they may be the future. However, it sounds like the jury is out right now. I think it's pretty new stuff and not a lot of people have them yet.

Ive done alot of research on it
it uses dual freq to give a clearn "SONAR" picture.. it wont do any different in downscan though
But the sonar will give you a better fish arch off the bottom, off a piece of structure.
if you have the money they are awesome.
But the HDI models are going on clearance and AMAZING prices. all depends what you want.
the chirp is going to the the future but its nothing to go sell your old unit for... manufactures are really pushing chirp bc its the only new technology out in a few yearsZach Moore

What kind of battery are you guys using for these crazy fishfinders? My little humminbird greyscale runs for days on one charge but I can't imagine these would last more than a few hours. I'm considering an upgrade before spring but I'm concerned about killing my battery on the first day of a 2 or 3 day suicide trip.

Thats just about the length my average saltwater kayak fishing session so I don't think these are in the cards for me. Does anyone see any siginifcant value in color fishfinders over greyscale? If anything I am considering a Mark IV or something just to get a wider screen but I don't see the appeal of the color and all the fancy sonar

I like the color screen of my Elite-4 HDI. Could I get by with greyscale? Sure, but the colors really stand out so glancing at the screen my brain makes sense of what's displayed faster.Hobie fleet:
