  • New Kayak Suggestions?

I've been doing some research on new kayaks, but it would be irresponsible of me not to ask the more experienced folks here for their input.

I need a kayak that can handle a trolling motor with battery. No shorter than 12 feet (I like going out on the bay).

Budget $900. Will consider used kayaks.

I rearranged my FS12T to handle my trolling motor and battery, but I would prefer to have a kayak that was built for the job - tired of half assing it.. Luckily, my brother is interested in paddling around in the FS12T so I'm unloading it fairly easily.

Very interested to hear to your comments, especially from those that have trolling motors.

    Thanks all!

Hobie Outback used - I bought a used 2009 Outback that still performs great no leaks and have upgraded fins/rudder. If you can stretch your budget to $1000-$1100 you may be able to find a used one. Sorry this is assuming you aren't fishing shallow waters.

Argh. It's always that little extra stretch isn't it? haha. I won't be fishing shallow waters. I'll keep my eye out. I would stretch to $1000, but not much more.

Do you have a trolling motor on your kayak?

Oh, I completely forgot those are pedal drive. I might have to stretch that budget afterall.

If you're not looking for a peddle yak and want to stick to the $900 budget, you could probably get into a Wilderness Systems Ride 135 for less than 900 used or demo. The ride 135 has a 550lb capacity. Wilderness Systems makes nice kayaks.

Ryan, thanks. The peddle drive is not a must for me, although high capacity is. Thanks for the suggestion.

Delaware Paddlesports has a slightly used native redfish 12 for 650. I know they are coming to the flea market medicyaker does on jan 31 at lake shore vol fire dept. If you wanted it they would probably bring it down for you. You can always call brian at delaware Paddlesports, very helpful people.

I don't have one, but I know Alan is right. For me it's just a matter of figuring out how to convince the boss though.

But still cheaper and less painful than removing her foot from my ass.

I have found this works for more than fish hooks.
