  • Making a Kayak Crate similar to Yak Attack Black Pak

Just wanted to post up what I'm working on while it's too cold out to fish. Decided to try and make a box similar to Yak attacks black Pak. Here are a couple pictures so far. Still have more things to add but right now it's a start. Used starboard 1/4" 12x18 on all four sides and used 1/2" 12x12 starboard for the 2 supporting sides and used stainless steel 10 x 1" screws to fasten everything together. More to come... this box is 12"x18"x12" which is a little bigger then the black pak.

Nice work, a few rod holders and you're ready to go.

      Great job!

I own a BlackPak and find it very useful.

I'm sure you'll be pleased with the result of your work.

Nice work. Here is a report of another customized storage box made for the rear of a Native Slayer Propel 13. The owner made his box out of a single sheet of ABS plastic.

What is starboard? Haven't seen mention of it.

Starboard is a trademarked polymer produced by King Plastic in Florida. Originally intended exclusively for the marine and RV industry, they found the cyclical nature of those two niches limiting. They now produce quite a few refined products (anti microbial, for hospitals and restaurants) but continue to crank out Starboard in a wide range of thicknesses and panel sizes. You may be able to order it from who ever supplies sign shops and custom cabinet makers in your area. Failing that, the Kingplastic.com website may list their distributors.

Very cool! Did the same myself today. Put some Ram tracks on my new crate$15. These Seasense rod holders $21 are good... Plus they come with the nuts and bolts.

Thanks! My "crate" is a cooler that was on clearance at marshals...it is called the game day cooler. I installed a grommet in the front for my VIO POV power cord (12v sealed lead acid), the tracks are 6" $15. The cooler has wheels.

That starboard stuff looks cool. What's the cost of just making the box?
After seeing the black pak/box in person I know they can store quite a bit..so looks like yours is gonna be nice.

Definitely a fan, of just buying a product specific for kayaking.....don't care too much for makeshift rigging. Just my preference......definitely found that the cooler option is heavier...for what that's worth. 😊

Oh I like my cooler.😁 guess I'm just use to the crate and the weight. Didn't know the BP was that heavy. Maybe mdfisherman's version is lighter?

Wouldn't be that bad of a deal...lighter and cheaper sounds good. Have say there is a lot of storage...after seein yours.

Yeh there's nice storage. Only down fall is the weight .. and u have to lay 3700 box's down
. They r to long to set in on its side.. by half n inch. Kinda gets annoying
