  • Public Tour THIS Sat 3/14/15 Cox Creek Dredge Site & Swan Creek near Glen Burnie MD

    Hi all,

There's potential for enhanced public water access at the Cox Creek Dredge Site and Swan Creek Wetlands as part of the site expansion. The site is open for tours THIS Saturday, 3/14/15, from 10 am to 1 pm as part of the public input process.

Details below. It's just south of Fort Armistead Park and behind the Under Armor factory outlet in Glen Burnie.

There's a startlingly lovely wetlands between the dredge materials site and the power plant, behind the long sand beach. It would be great if we could at least get official permission to land on that beach and even better if the MPA would develop a launch site.

How's the fishing in that area?

Surprising places have great potential for public water access. Explore the Cox Creek Dredged Material Containment Facility and Swan Creek Wetlands with the Port of Baltimore this Saturday, 3/14/15, from 10 am to 1 pm. Planning for facility expansion is underway and now is the time to propose public water access at this site.

Van tours of the entire facility start at 10:00 am and the last van tour leaves at 12:30. You can also tour the Swan Creek Wetlands portion of the facility on foot by yourself. Plan on being off the site by 1 pm.

The Cox Creek Facility is on the Patapsco River portion of the Chesapeake Bay just south of the Key Bridge and Fort Armistead Park near Glen Burnie. Swan Creek Wetlands are behind and just south of the Cox Creek Facility. Swan Creek has a long sandy beach right on the Bay. You can see this site when you drive across the Key Bridge.

Swan Creek is already open on a limited basis for birdwatching weekdays from 7 am to 3 pm. The site offers potential for kayak, canoe and SUP launching and landing, shore fishing, a dog beach and more. Come tour the facility and tell the Port of Baltimore that you want more public water access at this site!
