  • Need help deciding

Hello. Today is my birthday and I received a wicked generous gift card to Amazon because I need a camera. I can't decide if I should get the Olympus TG-3 or the new TG-860. I am kind of stuck on Olympus brand but I welcome all opinions. HELP please.

Great picture quality, easy to use, wifi, gps for tagging exact picture coordinates, great underwater picture quality and video and its rugged. Had it for a year now with no issues at all

I just brought the Olympus tough 850 and love the Photo effect of these cameras. This is my second generation of these cameras They have been thoroughly tested underwater in the Keys. I would suggest that you compare the 850 and the 860 and look at the differences. There are some very informative videos on youtube specific to both of these cameras. And as you know these cameras are tough on drops and great underwater shots.beautiful 301 bridge picture.jpg301 sunset.jpg

Thanks Scorpio. I was considering the TG-850 also but forgot to mention it. It actually costs more than the newer 860. I can't figure out why.

I have the aw110...it is pretty good, but I would absolutely take the tg-3 in place of it if I could afford one.

Yeah. I am pretty lucky and blessed. So how do you like your Outback? Have you fished from it yet?

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure I was actually one of the first in the area to get my outback last fall (I preordered and it seemed like forever waiting to get it). I have already spent somewhere between 100 to 200 hours on the outback so far...it has been to Cbbt, Lynnhaven, Hrbt, Kipto, Rudee (all my usual spots) and also few different spots on the upper Bay and Potomac. It is really fast and super comfortable (plus no more constantly sore shoulders for me).

Pretty much love it and think it is nearly the perfect do it all yak for me with just a couple little gripes (I feel like they should have come up with a track system instead of just molded in holders for as much money as they are charging, I think the large rectangular hatch should have been standard, I have a slight issue with the seat but they sent replacement parts that I still need to pick up and install, I also just noticed the stitching on one of the side pockets is coming unraveled...another easy fix but still not real happy about that after spending so much on this thing).

I got the larger center hatch last year but never got it installed until last week. I installed that and also installed some gt175 gear tracs behind the rear molded in holders for my rocket launchers on mighty mounts. There is also just enough room on the 8" tracks for my visicarbon on a scotty gear head. I took the outback out for a quick spin to try out the new stuff over weekend--some were saying the large hatch might be hard to open on the outback, but it was not at all hard for me...I definitely feel that the rectangular hatch should have been included standard on this new outback. Next mods will be an anchor trolley and getting my lowrance mounted up on there once I decide on installing a rail for it or just sticking it in the sailing mast location.

Thanks guys for the birthday wishes. John, thanks for the extensive report on the new Outback. I am hoping to get one soon so it's great to know what to look out for. I agree that the square hatch should have been included with the price being so high. I think it's even extra for the front hatch bin/tub. Even with that being said; and I know I am going to get some flack for saying this, Hobie is the best fishing kayak out there. If things work out for me, I hope to have one by Jamaica Bay. I am sooo looking forward to that trip.
