  • Upper Severn

I am fairly new to Yak fishing (2nd year) and it has become my number one obsession. I live about a mile from the upper Severn. I am aware of all the cartop access in Anne Arundel, Prince George and Howard County, but was wondering if there were any access points to the upper Severn less talked about. Pure laziness on my part. I would love being able to throw the yak on the truck and drive a few minutes to some spot near home and fish for a few hours without making a day trip out of it. Don't get me wrong, the more day trips the better, but I have been looking for 2 years for something (legal) on the upper Severn. Any input would be most appreciated.

There is no public access north of Round Bay. Smiths Marina in Little Round Bay does allow use of their ramp, but charges a substantial fee (last year it was $20). The only free public access on the Severn is farther downstream at Jonas Green Park (no trailers allowed), Truxton Park, Ellen Moyer water park, and the ramp on Tucker St (no trailers allowed).

Thanks John. You pretty much verified what I had found so far. Mildly dissapointed in our counties access to the surrounding tribs at the upper end of them all.

Eastport also offers some free public launching areas at Chesapeake ave beach and Maritime Museum on 2nd street, though there is a short haul to the beaches and street parking is limited.

          Hi Mike,

As you know the area that you live in has a dense waterfront population. Keep an eye out and make friends with waterfront owners. Many will be happy to have you launch if they perceive that you are safety conscious and that you will be quiet and respectful of the favor they are doing you..

hope to see you on the Severn, (red wilderness systems yak)
