ALERT---Snakehead Tournament!---ALERT

May 16th embarks the annual DC snakehead competition!! I want as many people from here to go and support Snaggedline and get our name out there to the public and not just kayakers! I got in contact with Bryan king the chief of the fisheries and wildlife division of the DC DNR, he said that you must posses a dc fishing liscense , there is no registration or sign up fee, fish may be caught elsewhere and frozen Just show up at 1-2 for the weigh in( address is on the flier) .

I was gonna try to get a meet and great together for some snake head action, I don't know anything about fishing for them but I want to go.

So is the tournament just to bring in as many pounds of snakehead as possible, including fish caught months ago? The way to win this thing is to start fishing now and stock up the freezer it seems to me. None the less I'd love to go catch a snakehead!

Potentially yes you could do that, but i dont feel ethical doing so, Im not gonna use anything older than 3 days for the tournament.

well you know somebody is going to, lol. Personally I wouldn't do it because it would ruin the meat not gutting them for so long, and they are supposed to be fine table fare.

They are delicious, the meat is so meaty and white. Great fried and dipped in soy sauce or simply grilled and seasoned. If i freeze any it will be for no longer than a couple days

my ultimatum isn't go go and win, my goal is to get everyone together to help a cause, all fish that isn't being taken out is going to be donated and fed to the homeless. I want people to see what a difference a group of people who share the same interests can bring to the table. But, if one of us gets gets into something nice! Id love to see one of us bring a prize or two home!

That's what I'm thinking too. I'll be trying by rod and reel (I've never gone for SH and would love to get one on a topwater), but if I come across a liopleurodon floating up top that's going to get me a GoPro or some free gear, I'm pulling the bow out. I'm taking whatever I catch home anyways.

Haha me too. I usually throw back the big one, so maybe one day I can catch a 18+ lbs for the world record. There is no way to win the tournament unless you are bowfishing and save all your catch for at least a week.

We're better off having a meet & greet then have a fish fry afterward at somebody house haha
