I fished Fletchers from shore today, Wednesday, 4-29-15, 10:45am to 2:00pm. After over a week of high and muddy water, peaking @7.7', the Potomac had finally settled down to fishable conditions. I caught 34 hickory shad ranging in size from smallish to very nice sized females. Also caught 2 American shad ~18”. All were caught on a variety of standard shad lures and silver spoons with additional weight added to increase distance and sink rate.
LT-12:36pm, flow-4.5’, water temp @noon 58F, and water clarity pushing 2’.

My bro-in-law and I rented a boat and set out. Fishing was terrible, almost at a dead stop. I caught 1 very small America and few dinky wperch and a herring, no hickories. My BIL caught maybe 4 small Americans and one big hickory plus some small wperch. That was it. Depressing as heck after 5 hours of fishing. Dunno if the shad run is over or what, seems a little early to me. We should have at least a week left. We shall see. BTW, I saw only scattered minor action from other boaters.
