Going Fishing Friday 5-21

If the weather is as nice as they say it will be I'm going to go out fishing tomorrow morning, thinking of launching from Jonas Green around 7-7:30. Anyone is welcome to join me.

I was out on the Severn from 6:30 to 9:00 this morning. Although I saw a lot of marks on my FF, I caught few fish, and those were smaller than what I found in similar areas two weeks ago. Mark made a report from Monday in which he and Raptor did very well on stripers in the lower section of the river. But those fish did not reveal themselves to me today.

I hope you are more successful tomorrow than I was today. If you try fishing downstream from Jonas Green and don't have much luck, try trolling the channel edges and the shallower sections between the bridges. I have no evidence that they are there, but it is worth a look.

Thanks John, I was originally going to try the open bay but it looks like it's going to be a little windy. So I'm hoping the river will provide a little refuge and hopefully produce.

The Lower Severn river from the RT50 Bridge to the bay is closed. I had a helicopter circle me until the coast guard showed up and escorted me back to the launch. They said till at least 3:00 it will be closed.

Several years ago during the winter, some dignitary was visiting the Naval Academy. I launched from Jonas Green and was quickly intercepted by a Coast Guard vessel. They told me to stay upriver for the next several hours. I did not realize until later, but a Capital newspaper photographer had photographed the incident.

I just talked to AA County and they said the Secret Service and Coast Guard told them they could open the park and river at 1:00pm. But she also admitted that could change if he stays longer. Anyone see the chopper leave yet?

It was interesting for sure, I was drifting past the bridge getting my poles ready about to cast out, and all of a sudden a helicopter is over me. At fist I thought it was a news chopper, I was like cool I might be on the news Then I saw the police emblem on the side of it. My next thought was ok he's just checking me out doing a threat assessment he will leave in a minute. When he didn't leave I was getting annoyed, i even looked up at him and put my arms out like what is going on. Then I saw the coast guard boat coming and he told what was going on so he escorted me back. Even the park rangers did't know about it until it was happening. When I got back to the launch the Secret Service showed up and shut down the whole park. Everyone was real nice about it, one of the secret service guys was even talking to me about may yak. It seemed that they knew it took everyone by surprise and was just politely asking people to leave.

I was out there today at about 2pm for a couple hours and it was really windy. I only hooked up once trolling some paddle tails. Unfortunately that fish got off. I ended up just coming in and going over to the little maggoty and catching some pickerel and perch and a couple small rockfish. Fun day but just a little too windy.
