I just moved here from San Diego and had a question about the upper Patuxent. is the water in Jug Bay full freshwater? i only ask because i have magnesium reels that id love to use for the bass but if its still brackish up there then i will have to leave em at home. any info would be awesome.

Welcome to the forum and to MD.

Jug Bay is tidal fresh water.

I went there once last year. It's scenic and worth a visit.

Many of us fish the brackish tributaries of the Chesapeake and even the Bay itself with freshwater gear. I rinse my rods and reels with fresh water from the hose after each trip and lubricate the reels periodically. I've had no problems with their performance.

thanks Mark. ya i saw your post and pics using the search. just wanted to make sure about it being fresh. i could take my curado reels. i use them all the time in the bay and i do rinse them when i get home. just don't like the idea of the steez's there all magnesium frames and that metal loves to corrode quickly and get out of hand. thanks for the info. i shall see how well the fishing is for me tomorrow.
