It's the "standard". If (when) you get one make sure to add floatation and reinforcement.

If you trace over the raised markings with a dark Sharpie, you can see the length of your fish easier.

I have seen Hawg Troughs for sale from various stores -- most have that store's logo on it. I decided to check into the product. As best as I can tell, the Hawg Troughs are made by Hagen's Fishing Tackle in South Dakota. The base price for each trough ranges from $11.30 to $12.30, but you need to order at least 25 of them. You can have your own design or logo printed on the batch of troughs you order for an extra charge of at least $95.

My Hawg Trough was purchased at the Cabelas store in Hamburg, PA many years ago. It has the original Hagen's logo on it.

I've only ever used a trough once and it was for a catch and release tournament. Otherwise, I don't see a need for one. A $0.50 wooden meter stick works just fine and takes up less space.

Would be cool if we could get an order together with the Snaggedline logo. I'd buy one for sure.

I found a new type of fish measuring trough at Dicks that's made by Frabill. It's dark blue/teal and is comprised of two overlapping sections that can be extended into one long trough. With the two sections overlapping, it's a 15 inch trough. You can depress a push section that allows the trough to be fully extended, to about 36 inches. I liked the compact design so I picked one up. The numbers are a little harder to read, but the trough itself seemed to be a little more rugged than the standard hawg trough.

They are pretty good, but I wish they would just make them slightly more heavy duty. I broke a couple and my repaired trough is holding up well so far. Just used some stuff I had laying around for reinforcement...wood spline, bondo fiberglass, and some marine silicone.

I'm still on my original trough after four seasons with many nice fish laid across it. I put dowel rods sealed in with caulk on the back

I don't care about personal best size fish or how big the fish is unless I am going to keep it, so I try to keep the fish in the water and release it without brining it in the yak. If I think it is going to be legal to put on my dinner plate I like using the trough to lay across my lap and slide the fish on it, where it keeps the fish stable for measuring. It also allows for the fish to be slid back in the water without touching it ( so it stays healthy).

The Hawg Trough seems to be becoming the standard for kayak bass fishing tournaments (which is the reason I carry one). It is a good device for getting consistent, repeatable lengths for each individuals fish.

Yes, which I used for the tournament that one time. I guess I didn't use an official through then. I'm too cheap to buy something for $10+ when <$1 works

Unfortunately I could lately get by with the short version, if they made such a thing.

It has been weeks since I caught anything worth measuring.

But the point Peggy made is true. Its concave shape helps to hold the fish for easy measuring.

                              It's a good product.
