  • Aug 13 M&G

Back in December a bunch of us got together for a burgers & beer meet & greet and came up with a loose schedule for this years M&G's. August is supposed to be at the Bay Bridge for live lining stripers. But now that we cannot launch at Hemingways and the CBKA Tournament in September is within reach of the bridge I am making a motion to change the venue to the Ocean City area and target flounder. We have a member living over there (Matt- CB kayak 02) that is willing to organize.

Never too late to plan ahead. Matt says the tides look good for this date. Any seconds to this motion?

That is ashame that Hemmingways will not let us launch there anymore. Does Hemmingways own that piece of land? Maybe we can talk to the owner and say that we have a group of 8, 10, 15 kayakers who would like to launch from there, and will be spending money for food and drinks at their outdoor facility.... I wonder if they would go for that. As for changing the venue, that is fine by me. I may not be able to make the OC trip due to some lingering medical conditions, unless I hitch a ride with someone. I guess that will require us to either camp or stay in a hotel.

Agree with moc. Pursue the landowner and find out what privilege we have on launching from there. Is that launch area privately owned, or is it public zone?

OC would be good. Looks like an overnighter trip.

could always launch from sandy point at small craft launch or boat ramp to fish bridge?

                OC bayside or ocean?

The idea would be ocean city bayside, targeting flounder.

Im thinking launch from OC Commercial Fishing Harbor in West OC off of Golf Course Rd. Its a free launch at the boat ramp there, we could all use the same ramp so we don't clog up too much boat traffic.

This location is close to both the inlet, the RT 50 bridge and the bays behind Assateague. All are the major hot spots for flounder as well as Rock and blues around the inlet and south jetty.

I'll attach an image of my proposal. Launch site and there are a number of restaurants in the same area walking distance from parking for the boat ramp.

That is good to know about that free boat launch. I always wanted to know if there was one in OC. Now I know. Is it free to call boats or just car toppers?

                      This sounds good. I'm in!

Matt, regarding the launch, anyone you need to check with before a dozen kayakers show up on a Saturday morning?

Could be. Alternatives? I know there's a launch on the west side near the Verazano Bridge. On the other hand, if we fish at sun up we'd beat most of the crowds.
