I am running 8lb mono on a spinning rod right now, I have been noticing allot of line breaks lately even recently on something as light as pulling a hung up bait off some grass. While pulling the old line off I noticed that the rod tip guide has a rough looking surface on the bottom and notches in it, I can even feel the line get caught in the grooves if I pull the line around the guide. Is it safe to assume the bad guide is chaffing and nicking the line causing it to break easily? A close inspection of the line after pulling the line through the bad guide even shows some wear on the line.
Is it easy to replace the tip or is it even worth the trouble on a 40.00 3 year old Ugly Stick Light? Picture of rod tip is below
