  • 7th Annual TKAA Fish For Charity Tournament

The Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association proudly announces the 7th Annual Kayak Fish for Charity Tournament.
The date is Sept. 24, 2011 and the tournament headquarters will be in the Tidewater area of Virginia. (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, etc)
Registration is open using the link below.

As in years past, the tournament will support two charities, both of which use kayak fishing and fishing related activities to help rehabilitate wounded war veterans.
    They are:
    Heroes on the Water http://heroesonthewater.org
    Project Healing Waters http://www.projecthealingwaters.org

Last year, through the generous donations of our sponsors and the great support of the participants, we were able to fund a new chapter of HOW in central VA and continue to support the Hampton Roads chapter.

This year’s tournament will feature a slam and several species divisions (redfish, speckled trout, flounder, striper, and largemouth bass) as well as divisions for youth and female anglers.

Once again, Hobie Kayaks has agreed to be the anchor sponsor with a grand prize for the slam division being a Hobie Pro Angler kayak, valued at over $2500.

For the freshwater folks, KayakBassFishing.com and HOOK 1 will again sponsor the large mouth bass division with a kayak for first place.

Other major sponsors include Appomattox River Company (kayak), Wilderness Systems (kayak), NuCanoe (kayak), Tar River Paddle Sports (kayak), Blue Ridge Mountain Sports (kayak), YakAttack, and many more. See tournament page link below for more details.

Great prizes and raffle items will be available. Early registration includes a tournament t-shirt, awards ceremony meal, and raffle ticket. (bonus raffle ticket for paid TKAA members) The first 125 paid entries receive a Hobie Kayak captain’s bag with lots of great items.

Please click on the following link to register and for complete information regarding rules, sponsors, accommodations, etc.

Hope to see you there for a good time to support two great causes.

For those of you that haven't fished a TKAA tournament, they put on a top notch tournament.

Even if you don't catch a fish the dinner and door prizes alone are worth the enrty fee. If you get a captains bag you are realy making out.

I just got back from Lynnhaven Inlet this past weekend. I might do this tourny.

I usually go at least once month down there so I would join you (pinch) if our schedule
          works out.

                        TKAA Entry Reminder

Just a reminder that the early deadline for the 7th Annual TKAA Fish for Charity tournament is less than one week away (Sept. 12). If you haven’t registered and want to fish in the tournament, please register before the entry fee increases.

You still get an official tournament t-shirt, a meal, and raffle ticket (a total $40 value right there), as well as a chance to win some great prizes, including new kayaks, as well as our usual great raffle items. (see prize page at www.tkaa.org/tournament for a complete (and growing) list of prizes and raffle items from some great sponsors in the kayak fishing industry.

But the most important reason to enter the tournament is to support Heroes on the Water and Project Healing Waters. We’ll have 25 men and women from 4 different areas (HOW chapters from Tidewater, Central Virginia, and NC, as well as Project Healing Waters members) here to fish our tournament. (We are still looking for businesses who can provide meals for these veterans while they are in town. If you know of a business who can help out, please contact me) In the past, we have raised enough funds to help start a chapter and keep existing chapters going.

This has become the third largest kayak fishing tournament in the nation and draws 200 anglers from Maine to Florida. It’s a great chance to rub elbows with some great men and women who enjoy our sport. There are divisions for both salt and fresh water as well as female and youth angler divisions. I know that schedules and finances can be issues, but if you’re not participating because you’re not a seasoned “tournament” fisherman or woman, that is totally the wrong reason not to. Just last year, the winner of a kayak in the redfish division was flounder fishing and pulled in a redfish which happened to come in at a whopping 45”! That, I believe, is an all-time tournament record. To top it off, it was his very first redfish. Luck does play a huge part in fishing, as many of us know by now.

If you haven’t already, we hope you’ll consider joining us for this great event. You can still register on site, but t-shirt will not be included and it greatly helps with meal preparation if we have an accurate count prior to the tournament.

Hope to see you there in a couple of weeks.

the rest of the TKAA staff
