  • Tracking our mileage

Those of us with the Lowrance FF/Gps combos this is the basic set up'

    hit the menu button twice
go up to the setting menu
    go to trip calculator menu
go to bottom of page and set threshold to 00mph (the threshold is preset at 5mph and only registers above 5mph) In a kayak you will never get any mileage reading unless you change this to 00 mph
now go to top of page and reset trip
now you are all set up to track your mileage

Thanks Jeff! I'm going to put those steps as a note on my phone and do that for the next time out on my kayaks.

I just happened to look at the mileage on mine and it's almost at 800 miles. It's hard to believe I've gone that far in just a few years.

thanks for the tip.. one question about this particular FF.

on mine, it always shows the location of Ft Armistead (this happens to be the first place I went out with the FF and tried to use the GPS function). I cannot figure out how to tell it to go to my current location.. as such the GPS function is completely useless to me until I can figure it out. Any ideas?

                Pat,
There should be a option to "return to vessel" if you push one of the menu buttons.

                  Pat,

Make sure the GPS function is on via your settings. It sounds like it is not. Perhaps you inadvertently turned it off after your first trip. Mine automatically searches for a satellite signal when I turn the unit on and when it finds the signal the appropriate map appears on my screen. It also gives me a message at that time saying it knows where it is. Until then, the map of where I was on my last outing appears.

                    Yes, this. /\

Any idea how to delete a MOB? I can't seem to figure that out...

Hi Jeff, thanks for showing me how to navigate the menu on my lowrance Saturday. Had to go out of Turner creek Sunday to try it out. 132.jpg

                        Jeff,

Thanks for the tip. I have noticed on my Lowrange Elite 4, when I set threshold to 00mph (while the FF is sitting on my garage workbench), the trip calculator starts as if I am actually moving. To resolve that issue, I set my threshold to 0001 mph.

i feel there should be a very informational power point by the company to explain every single detail on these units. mine is still not set up the way i wish it to and the manual is not easy without pictures considering i have 0 experience with fish finders.

I visited YouTube to learn how to operate mine since the manual was deficient. The productions most helpful were posted by users, not the maker.

I have owned a series of Lowrance units going back to the mid-90s. With each new generation, the capabilities increase and price decreases. But at the same time, the challenge of working the buttons and menus to do what you want the unit to do goes up. Unless you have a tremendous intuitive capability to understand how these things work, there is no better way than reading the manual cover-to-cover (and I am nerdy enough to do that). Where that is insufficient, look for online videos to help you out.

As a shortcut, if you have specific questions on how to work a particular model, the Snaggedline community is usually knowledgeable and helpful.
