  • New to Kayak fishing

Hey guys I'm brand new to kayaking and have a very basic knowledge on fishing I already have a angler kayak and outfitted the way I like I've been out to the bay bridge 3 times and have caught a bunch of perch, was wondering if any had advice on lure set up I'm only using a drop rig with live bait. Thanks for any help also what's the norm for number of rods and line captivity?

If you are going to the bridge, you can't go wrong with jigging BKDs (Bass Kandy Delights) along the pilings. The norm for number of rods is really a mater of personal preference. It depends on what you want to be ready for - Trolling, topwater, jigging, etc.

Lots of info on here to help new kayak anglers. What kind of kayak do you have? What fishing tackle do you have?

I fish from a Hobie Outback, mostly trolling jigs with paddle tails. Catch quite a few fish with that method. I like 6 foot one piece rods paired 3000 series/size spinning reels that are loaded with 20# braid.

Do a search on this forum for trip reports from these areas: Jonas Green, Goodhands Creek, Kent Narrows and Weems Creek. Each site is fairly close to the Bay Bridge where you've already been.

Additionally, many of the trip reports to these areas contain photos of lures used and discuss the fishing techniques employed.

But the best thing to do is to join others when you can on future outings posted here.

          Good luck.

When considering how many rods to carry I would suggest less is more. When fishing salt I will only take 2 or 3 (one for trolling/casting, one for running live bait, and one for catching bait).
