Do you want the Magothy?
There are 2 "closed" waterfront public parks on the Magothy River - 200 acres of Beachwood Park on the north shore and 55 acres of Spriggs Farm Park on the south shore.
The county bought Spriggs Farm Park in 2011 for 3.1 million dollars. Recreation and Parks built a parking lot at Spriggs in Summer 2013 and the park was to open after Recreation and Parks "talked to the neighbors". It's been 2 years, Rec & Parks hasn't found the neighbors and Spriggs is still closed. Additionally, the neighbors commissioned an erosion control design that ripraps the entire shoreline and will make it very hard to get to the water, if and when Spriggs ever opens.
Beachwood Park has an old access road straight to the water that's blocked by one deadfall tree and a lot of yard waste dumped in the road entrance by the neighbors. The carry to the water would be one-fourth of what it is now on a gentle slope if we could use the old access road.
It would take 5 minutes to open Spriggs by opening the chain across the entrance. It would take half a day to clear the old access road at Beachwood.
Come to the September Water Access Committee on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 6 pm and tell Rick Anthony, the Director of Rec & Parks, to open the Magothy. The neighbors have had their say, this meeting is our chance to have our say.
New Location: Old Mill High School, Media Center, 600 Patriot Lane, Millersville MD 21108

These public parks should be open to the general public!
Thanks
Lisa
