i didn't mean for this to be a guessing game. haha. i figured everyone had seen my previous post a month ago or so. the bait in question is the Spin Shad made by Sebile. you can still find certain colors and sizes. just gotta shop around the internet and be willing to pay quite a bit as Slobber Bob stated. its a bait that i killed stripers in the Sacramento Delta on the west coast and sure enough it seems to work quite well over here too. i'm not a troller, or i am just not good at it. either way, i love to bomb cast areas that look productive and this bait can be launched very far and tracks about 4 foot deep on a average to slow retrieve. so the water around my house is about 5-6 foot deep at most and this bait is just right to be retrieved right off the bottom and the stripers are smashing it. ok thats all i have to divulge today.

So...I hit the bay with the new magic lure for the first time this afternoon. I have the 3/4 oz size and an ounce and a quarter. On the third cast ever I had a rockfish on. The lure caught fish all afternoon, so yeah, I can confirm that when fished properly it catches fish. I got rock, perch and blues on it so it's pretty enticing to all things out there right now. I'd say that if you can get away with the 3/4 oz it's more effective as it flutters better, although as the water gets rough the heavier weight may be the right thing. Both caught fish. The heavier one is also quite a bit bigger. Too bad these things are hard to come by.

On another note, another lure that works similarly and also catches a ton of fish is the Halco Twisty 30. Toctherman's sells it. I just bought another one there because it also works so well. I stumbled upon it and highly recommend it.

Thanks for the info on the Spin Shad. I am now retired and living 20 minutes from the Sacramento Delta (I fish the Walnut Grove area). This last year I have not had good luck catching Stripers on lures, but now I am headed to the nearest tackle shop that sells the Spin Shad. The Stripers are now being caught in San Fran Bay and will soon be headed up the Delta. I plan to be ready this time!

Did you know the fish you're chasing are descendants of stripers from the east coast purposely transplanted in California over 130 years ago? I wonder if some people at that time were concerned about their impact on native fish populations. I'm glad it worked out and that you can enjoy catching stripers like we do in the Chesapeake region.

WST120, the spin shad is no longer made. so you have to purchase them online any pay a hefty amount for them. i suggest the half ounce or the 3/4 ounce models for the Delta. i grew up south of Sac in a town called Wilton and i fished the Walnut Grove area almost exclusively. It was my favorite area of the delta hands down. i always launched at Wimpys or the launch right next to that. and i always came back to Wimpys for lunch. if you ever want any info or specific spots just let me know and ill pm you all the info i got. especially if you like largemouth fishing. I've landed more bass over 10 pounds in the walnut grove area than the stockton area thats for sure. well good luck on the water. your fall striper run should be starting or going on now.

Alan, i'm glad i just ordered more because your report is gonna make many others throw down the dollars. haha. glad to hear you got into em. and i agree, i have caught stripers, white perch, bluefish and a few other bottom dwelling fish on it. sure wish Sebile still manufactured them so they wouldn't cost so much money as they do now.

Thank you for the "Welcome to Snaggedline" post, but the truth is, I have been a member since 2011 when I lived in Waldorf, MD. I decided to retire at the end of 2013 and move far away from the humidity and cold winters. So my wife and I are in sunny California loving every minute of this wonderful weather. I do miss my favorite fishing spots (Weems Creek, Severn River, Point Lookout, etc) and my fellow Snaggedline members. So I like to check in at least once a week to see how the fishing is going.

I did know the descendants of stripers facts. I did a lot of research on the west coast fishing before we moved and that's how I found out. I am finding out that most of the west coast guys do not know that fact. So far my east coast striper lures have not worked well out here. I am hoping to change that soon! Here's what I am catching now while I wait for the stripers to return.

I did some searches last night and Sportsman's Warehouse has some, so I will be headed up to Sacramento soon to buy some. I am going to have to dip into my casino budget to buy them...

Please PM me, I would appreciate any info you can provide. I usually launch my kayak at Wimpy's or New Hope (down the street) or Ko-Ket Resort near Ryde. My brother-in-law and I are regulars at Wimpy's. Next time I have lunch there, I will eat a Wimpy Burger for you.

So far my biggest Large Mouth Bass is 18 inches and my biggest Small Mouth Bass is 17 inches. I have no idea what they weighted.

Massive smallies there. my biggest smallie there was 7.3 pounds but there are some that go over 9 in that lake. it holds the state record i believe. but you can get into 3-5 pounders quite easy.

Thanks Rich, I checked out the lakes last summer and they were so low (and still are) I didn't feel comfortable trying to launch at the ramps. But since you said the smallies are bigger at Pardee, I will re-evaluate my discomfort level! I do go to Rancho Seco Lake a lot and I caught my first rainbow trout there last winter. I am now "hooked" and can't wait for the cooler (not cold) weather.

ya Rancho Seco is like 15 minutes from where i grew up. fished it a lot. i've never landed a huge bass there but you can catch a bunch drop shotting there thats for sure. Pardee is fed directly from a river but I'm sure its low as well. Pardee closes for a few months each winter so check there schedule before you make the drive out there.
