We did the best on blues and reds with live spot or pinfish hooked through the tail on a fish finder rig w/ 3-5oz of weight and a 2' 60lb fluorocarbon leader. For the most part, we were catching them real tight against shore. When we cast further out we lost gear to the sharks. Trailer hooks worked ok (i grew up running trailer hooks on walleye and pike up north), but the single hook through the tail was the most efficient.

We caught fish on bloodworms, bites, cut mullet, berkley shrimp gulps (white) on various rigs. Even caught a 32" drum on a 1/16 oz jig tipped with bloodworm. Best flounder action in the surf was on 1/2oz jig head and the shrimp gulps.

Yea we found out how awesome those fish bites were last year. I'll very rarely buy bloodworms again.
