Marking deep holes for surf fishing

Has anyone tried finding a way to mark deep holes at low tide. Last year there were spots inside the first sand bar which was dry at low tide but the trough was still was 3.5 feet deep.

GPS on a smart phone should do the trick.

The easiest way is it to just fish the sloughs. Just looks for breaks in the sandbar and cast right in the middle of em.
