Thinking about using a 6" bkd on a drop shot rig. Anyone try it? I figure 50# test leader with maybe a 4/0 or 5/0 hook. What do think about jigging with this?

BKDs on drop shot rig

I've thought about it for jigging for big croaker but haven't tried it. Croaker tend to hit when the jig hits the ground or when it just comes up, so I don't know if having some distance between the weight and BKD would be a disadvantage. It would be a way to use a smaller hook, though. I don't think 50lb test is necessary, though, unless you're jigging some sort of sharp structure.Yellow Hobie Revo Rube Goldberg

Actually, the 16"+ croakers have no reserves about hitting 6" BKDs. It blew me away last year when I caught several over 17" (no citations, though) that way, and it was a good way to weed out the small fry. A buddy of mine used to slay the big croakers in VA using bass assassins. Since I was using a 1oz jighead, I hooked most of them under the jaw, which is why I wanted to try a smaller hook on a drop shot rig. Unfortunately, I haven't been fishing enough this year to find the big croakers.Yellow Hobie Revo Rube Goldberg
