  • Spriggs 11/2...& new split rail fence

I was going to have too many hrs @ work this week so the boss said to get lost. I didnt need to be told twice since I was all ready to launch so I launched just before noon. The parks crew showed up to set up the new splitrail fence down by the loading zone to prevent peeps from driving to the cliff & looking @ the water. I paced off 20 paces( about 60 feet) for the crew. Additionally, I used my wide-ass cart to measure the opening, which is in the center. You can drive down to the new splitrail fence to load/ unload. You can carry, drag or use a cart through the opening to proceed towards the path down to the launch. This will keep the kids at night from inadverdently getting too close to the cliff when they drive into the park & hide their cars closest to the water. I've met the nicest people in this neighborhood & also the biggest jackasses too. I wont say who's who but we all know. Now, the real reason for this post: to launch & find fish...which I did to calm waters & a low hightide & even lower lowtide. The wind had always been charging & blowing towards the launch site, today it was different. The 1st fish was the biggest at just under kitchen-cleaning size...... then a few big hits but no cigar. I did some laps & thought the fishing would be better w/ the overcast skies but I was wrong..... until, I was just thinking out loud that I should've launched elsewhere but that I still had places here to explore & that I like exploring....as I spoke aloud those thoughts to some cormorants just sitting & watching me one rod went down quick! Then, it got tangled w/ the other line as the fish swam under my kayak. Another just short. I kept hearing splashing behind me thinking fish were hitting the other as it was disabled & caught in the rudder. I got it loose, casted a rat-l-trap & them wham! This went on for awhile..... casting to splashing fish & landing them.... caught some right up to the kayak. So, I explored new areas today into the bay & caught some fish, met some great park main & mgr personnel, a couple of friendly dog walkers & one nasty ol'person still wearing their Halloween outfit. I feel bad for their dog. Twas a beautiful day out...60s& overcast w/ peaks of sunshine.

County officials have been responsive to our input. Now let's hope that all the neighbors allow to us enjoy the park without harassment.

Good report John. It is good to see that most of the people involved with the park/users game are behaving well.

If we let them do that, then they win....

I'm curious if Spriggs can accommodate a trailered yak? I'm learning that many launches are car top only and unfortunately I'm not buff enough to get a PA12 on top of a minivan.

              Thanks,
              Leonard

                  Leonard,

I also trailer my PA12, but I've found that it's quite simple (if somewhat time consuming) to car-top it if necessary. If you run a search on Youtube, you'll find there are a number of videos showing how to lift a Pro Angler onto your car, one end at a time. It will require removing everything (which is the reason I prefer the trailer), but it is very possible with the correct technique. Between the mechanical leverage and lifting one end at a time, I'd estimate you have to be able to lift about 40 lbs over your head.
                  I need a good paddling
